This architectural assessment was completed by members of the Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area (TCWNHA), a partnership of the National Park Service (NPS) administered by the MTSU Center for Historic Preservation, at the request of the homeowners, J. Roderick Heller III and Kay Culbreath Heller for a comprehensive archival and architectural analysis of Windermere.
Work on the report was completed by three Public History graduate students– Ginna Foster Cannon, Thomas Flagel, and myself– under the guidance of Dr. Carroll Van West, Director of the Center for Historic Preservation. Cannon, Flagel, and myself measured the interior and exterior of the house and took ample photos. I put together Auto CAD drawings, Flagel researched the history of the house including documented changes, and Cannon and worked on report editing. I evaluated the building and developed the structural assessment, drawing on Flagel’s research. With the editorial help of Foster and West a polished report was produced (see embedded report below).
